The secrets of finding deeper happiness, peace and alignment with the rhythms of life are all around us. Through asanas and a yogic approach, we’ll explore and discover Intelligent Yoga for Body and Mind.

In life, we are flooded with sensation; we process these sensations and then respond to them. The noticing is done via the sensory nervous system and the response is via the motor nervous system, the part of us that intercedes between these two branches of the nervous system is the body. If our response to the things we notice are less than appropriate our body may throw up symptoms.

This maybe tightening shoulders in the time of a difficult situation and the symptom maybe neck pain or a headache, we may reveal something about ourselves in conversation and the body responds with a blush. There really is no separation between the mind and the body and the more deeply we understand this, the clearer some of our issues become. This retreat will look at the mind body paradox through reflection, discussion and yoga practice.

Peter Blackaby has been teaching yoga for over 30yrs and in that time has encompassed many styles of practice. These days he has settled into a deeply humanistic form of yoga that encourages people to find ease in whatever situation arises by learning to notice how they respond through their body to life’s events. Initially, he was a student of BKS Iyengar, completing his two-year teacher training after following that lineage for six years.

Peter is also a qualified Osteopath. This skill base in body alignment and refinement gives him a unique combination of skills that are of great benefit to his students and the teachers he trains. He also teaches anatomy and physiology and gives welcomed tuition and insights that influence not only our bodies, but also our lives. His expertise has been called upon by the British Wheel of Yoga.

His interest in the last 15 years has been to put a scientific underpinning to the practice of yoga, both in the biomechanical sense and within the mind and body relationship. Peter Blackaby’s recent book ‘Intelligent Yoga’ has received high praise from Yoga teachers and students around the world.
